An AI RPG text adventure with dice, health and inventory

You like RPGs for the numbers as much as the story: the health bar that drops, the item you saved for the right moment, the roll that decides it. AI story games give you the story, but the numbers are usually just words the AI can forget.
The numbers are real
In NovelFarer the RPG layer is code, not prose. Your health, money and belongings, the time of day, where you are and who trusts you are all kept by the game. If you used your last medkit, it is gone, whatever the storyteller writes next.
| Kept by the rules engine | Written by the AI storyteller | |
|---|---|---|
| Health and wounds | Yes: at 0 you collapse and pay a price | How it feels |
| Items and money | Yes: every item and coin is counted | What they look like |
| Rolls | Yes: the target, your bonus and the outcome | What happens next |
| Map and danger | Yes: places, travel time, danger level | Every scene |
| People | Yes: trust and patience | What they say |
Progress you earn
Each story runs from level 1 to 10. You level up through discoveries, obstacles overcome, goal steps, finished jobs and solved cases, not by grinding. At levels 2, 4 and 6 you gain a talent; at the others you raise an attribute and gain health. Areas keep their danger level, so coming back stronger means something.

- Pick a worldStart from one of the ready-made worlds, or describe your own in one sentence.
- Create your characterChoose one of five roles, each with its own strengths, and write your own past.
- Type what you doThe storyteller writes the scene. When it gets risky you throw the die, and the game keeps count of what it costs you.
