A free AI game master that keeps the rules

A good game master does two jobs at once. They tell the story, and they referee the rules. Most AI game masters only do the first, and that is why the game falls apart after an evening: the sword you bought disappears, gold appears from nowhere, and every roll somehow goes your way.
Two jobs, split in two
In NovelFarer an AI storyteller narrates and plays every character you meet. A rules engine, plain code, does the refereeing: it decides what a roll needs, keeps your character sheet, counts your money and items, moves the clock and tracks the dangers coming for you. The storyteller can surprise you. The referee cannot be talked round.
What it does at the table
- A character sheet: five roles per genre and four attributes, strength, insight, presence and agility.
- Real rolls: a d20 you throw yourself against 9, 12 or 15, with four outcomes, including success at a price.
- Levels 1 to 10 for real progress, with talents at levels 2, 4 and 6. The world does not level up with you.
- Jobs and people: offers to take or turn down, and people whose trust counts when you persuade them.
- A case file in mysteries, with clues and exactly one accusation.

It is single-player, it does not replace your group, and now and then the storyteller gets a detail wrong. What matters for the game is kept by the rules, and you can take back a turn or have a scene told differently.
How to start
- Pick a worldStart from one of the ready-made worlds, or describe your own in one sentence.
- Create your characterChoose one of five roles, each with its own strengths, and write your own past.
- Type what you doThe storyteller writes the scene. When it gets risky you throw the die, and the game keeps count of what it costs you.
